Hindhead Tunnel Run - 21st of August 2011

As stated on the flyer, there are 2 meeting points, the first at Horndean Morrisons, just off junction 3 or the A3(M). We will actually meet at the industrial estate behind Morrisons as their car park will be busy. Meet at around 13:30 to leave at 14:00-14:10. [map]

We will then cruise up the A3, pulling in to the Little Chef at Liphook. This is the second meeting point to pick up anybody from that area or further north. It will also give people a chance to sort out cameras etc before the tunnel. We will leave the Little Chef at 14:45 on our way to the northbound tunnel. [map]

With regards to the tunnels, as a word of warning, there are average speed cameras throughout the tunnels. We do not condone breaking the laws of this country.

After turning around, I believe the closest junction is that of the A283, we will head through the southbound tunnel and make some more noise

After which there are options available:

1) We can stop off for a meal at Liphook (I've allowed about 2 hours for this)
2) Carry on home

Those of you that choose option 2, don't forget about the Solent Renegade's Southsea Cruise that evening. That would be a nice way to round off the day. Meet by the fun fair in Southsea, to leave at around 7:00pm.

The people who go for option 1. The place we are heading for is called The Links in Liphook. The plan is to have a drink and/or meal, and leave the pub at around 17:15 to join the Southsea Cruise or you can head home.

Lets have some fun and a great day!

Intro...

The Hindhead Tunnel which will take the A3 under the Devil's Punchbowl is due to open this summer, and I was thinking, what better way to celebrate the opening of the tunnel than a mass tunnel run.

The ultimate aim would be to get a group of like-minded people together; namely people who have petrol pulsing through their veins and drive a nice loud car, preferably with 6 or more cylinders. This procession of horsepower would make it's way to the tunnel and proceed to christen the longest tunneled road in the UK with the sound of 5000 cylinders.

At the moment there is no official opening date, so the point of this blog is for people to follow to show their interest in taking part, and to be kept up-to-date. That way as soon as the date is announced I can invite everyone to take part and hopefully with a lot of followers get some press coverage, maybe more.

So please join, and spread the word.
